A view of the The Constitution right before we got on.
For some reason it doesn't look to big from this side! The hull of the ship is
constructed with 21 inch thick oak
The guide took us right down to the next level right off the bat. This level host the many, many, many cannons that they have.
Then we went down one more level and here you get to see the sleeping quarters. Now this surprised me, I guess I never thought of how they slept so to see the beds I was impressed! Definitely not like the Mayflower II once again. I think you could fit the Mayflower II in this ship! I'm pretty sure if I had to sleep in one of these on the ocean I think I would spend more time getting in it than sleeping because I would fall out!
A tiny view of the cooks area. Which I think is a lot smaller than the one on the Mayflower II
This is a sample of what a foot locker contained
A view of the eating area, this is the opposite end of the beds
Tim was able to get a better view of the cooks area. |
This is what the gunpowder was stored in on the decks next to the cannons
I think he said boys ages 8-12 would run the gun powdered to each cannon. Not sure on the ages but it was about my grandkids ages.
Cannon ball storage area
Each cannon weighs about 6,500 pounds, with weight of a small SUV!
Captains quarters. Way different than the crews! ;O) This was as close as we could get.
A shot of the stairs...and I even had to duck so as to not hit my head in spots.
Tim getting ready to take her for a spin!
A deck side view!
More cannons...Crazy the amount they have!
My turn to think about taking her for a spin
Just a shot at how the cannons are help in place!
Tim thinking he would like to shoot one of these little guns. There are 20-22 cannons on each deck. |
The Bell
All the rigging. Totally crazy!! How would you ever remember which rope to do what with when???
Fun pictures!!
This is some of the cool cravings that we saw on it! Beautiful.
More Rigging
The dingy's
Not sure if there is a reason for the different colors of them.
Ha! We got brave enough to take her out!
I was just amazed by the rope...it was everywhere!
The view from outside the ship. |
The cute little round windows is the Captains quarters! Wow!
She looks bigger from this side!
Wait I just got a text from one of my kids!!!
One of the other ships in dry dock. That was kinda cool too.
Yep I was texting the kids again and I knew he was going to take a picture when he said Ter? |
The Old Ironsides Museum
Hey look kids I have a celebrity picture now too! Ha,ha,ha!
Waiting for the trolley. I was soaking up the sun.
Well that was well worth our time...and we highly recommend it to all who visit Boston...the cost...your driver license. We really think security was tighter getting in to see this ship than getting on the airplane! So don't miss it if you go to Boston!!!
